Default Blue Screen

How can I check if I have updated drivers if the computer will not boot up to windows. My computer seems to boot up normally, with one beep. I can not get windows to boot in any mode. The blue screen message begins with "A thread tried to release a resource it did not own."
I have not installed any new hardware lately nor any software. I can startup the computer with a CD, so maybe there is somthing I can do from the CD, OS is XP Home Edition.

When Windows refuses to boot, it makes it far more difficult to fix this kind of error. I assume you've already tried to boot into Safe mode with minimal drivers (i.e. hold F8 down in the early boot process). Without Safe mode working, you'll have to use your Boot CD.

I suggest you first try a earlier restore point, but I doubt it will fix it. For XP, instructions are at:

It's more likely you'll need to re-install Windows. Instructions are available under Solution #4 at:

Look for the sub-section: Reinstalling XP without erasing settings and applications
