Description
A restore point (a snapshot of the registry and a few key files) cannot be created. This indicates either the Window Backup service or the Volume Shadow Service is not running.

The restore point could not be created for the following reason:
The volume shadow copy provider is not registered in the system. (0x80042304)
To start or confirm the Backup and Volume Shadow Services are running:
Select Start, then in the Programs List, select Administrative Tools, then Services. As an alternative, you can type "Services" in the search programs box (Windows 7/Vista) or open the Run dialog (Windows + R) and type services.msc
Depending on your configuration, if you are prompted for the administrative password, enter it when prompted and select OK. The Component Services Dialog appears:
Select Services (Local) in the left pane, and scroll down to Windows Backup in the center pane.
Double-click on the Windows Backup entry. The Properties dialog should appear:
Set the Startup Type to Automatic and then click on Start. Once the service is started (as shown by the progress completion dialog disappearing) click OK.
Repeat steps 3 through 5 for the Volume Shadow Copy service.
