Run the Window disk check and repair program CHKDSK after the system reboots as follows:
Open the Run dialog (Windows key + R) and type: chkdsk c: /r
Replace "c" with the drive letter you want Windows to check and repair if it's another drive other than C.
If you get the message will appear Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)
Enter N as you do not want to dismount the drive right now.
It will likely return with a question: Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
Enter Y.
Save any open files and close all applications. Restart the system to have Windows complete the disk test and repair.
The /R command line option will have Chkdsk fix errors and also locate bad sectors and attempt to recover the data from bad sectors. It includes all the repairs that a /F command would do plus more.
If Chkdsk cannot be forced to run at boot time, you may want to run it in Safe-mode, where you press F8 before the Windows logo appears during startup. In safe-mode, go to a command prompt and enter Chkdsk c: replacing C with the drive letter you need to test and repair.
