Description
Generally this is a secondary issue when Windows is unable to communicate with the printer. Typically Windows would have issued a more serious printer communications error message before seeing this. Windows doesn't know what the ink levels are without printer communication. The printer communication issue should be solved first, before being concerned with this message.

Confirm the Printer is powered on, shows no errors, and is correctly connected between the printer and the computer using one of these methods (depending on your printer's design):
USB cable
Ethernet cable
WiFi Wireless*
Firewire cable (rare)
Parallel printer cable (for very old printers, obsolete today)
* WiFi connections will go to a wireless router, which connects to your PC. The printer, router and PC must all be configured correctly for WiFi to work. If the distance between the WiFi printer and router is too far, a WiFi connection may not be possible. In some cases there may be interference that prevents a viable connection.
