Media Player 10 cannot be installed, as portions of version 11 of Media Player were found and are incompatible with this version.  This can occur if you are using XP SP2 or later or have previously installed Media Player version 11, or some other application installed portions of Media Player 11.

Uninstall Existing Version

Uninstall the Windows Media Format 11 runtime:

  1. Click on Start, Control Panel, and select Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Locate the program: Windows Media Format 11 runtime and click on Uninstall.

Once v11 is uninstalled, you should be able to install the old version of Window Media Player.

Install the latest version of Windows Media Player (v11 for XP). Note that version 12 and later are not compatible with Windows XP.
