Older scripting languages such as ActiveX allow the execution of code on your PC in an unsecured manner that could damage files, insert malware, viruses or keyloggers. In general most legitimate sites (with the exception of Microsoft) avoid ActiveX for these reasons and use the more secure JavaScript when helping users ensure a safe browsing experience.
