Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and select Start Task Manager. Under the "Processes" tab, there is a long list of ".exe" files running. Find "trillilan.exe" (I recommend alphabetizing the names first by clicking on the heading "Image Name") and simply end that process. A window will pop up asking if you're sure, but just continue through it.
Now start Trillian normally and the error should not appear!
I did this on Vista, but Task Manager is found on all versions of Windows, so there should be no issue there.
