SECURE_BOOT_VIOLATION

STOP: 0x00000145

  Description

The BIOS has a Secure boot option that detects if critical boot files are modified. The SECURE_BOOT_VIOLATION indicates something was modified and Windows will not be allowed to start. This fatal issue will also occur if you installed a new OS version, and did not first turn off the BIOS's Secure boot option.

This is a fatal Windows error, typically called a Stop message, Bug Check, or more commonly the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD). The system is in a forced reboot state. Any unsaved work is likely lost.

If you just made a major OS update or installed a new OS, you'll first need to go into the computer's BIOS at startup and disable the Secure Boot feature.

Every manufacturer has different ways to access the BIOS. Use our BIOS access guide if you are unsure how to do this.

While BSoD fatal stop errors are identified by Microsoft Windows, they are often caused by non-Microsoft applications, drivers and hardware issues.
