Bad Gateway
Description
A large web site may have many servers that are interconnected. Something went wrong between these mutliple servers. It may also be an indication the web site is overloaded or there is a problem with one of the servers.
Some web servers provide additional information and/or a secondary error number. For example, 502.1. If this occurs, check the Internet solutions list for for a better explanation and solution.

502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server.
There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server.

Error messages will differ depending on the web server and if replaced by the web site designers.

Frequency is relative to other Internet warnings and errors.
Solutions and Fixes
This issue can only be fixed by the web site owner.
Locate Cached Page

If the page has been deleted from the server or it is not currently available you can try to get an achived copy. If you used a link from a search engine, you might be able to get some information by using the "cached" option.
You can also try viewing the site or page from an archive such as the WaybackMachine.
Most archives and cached versions only retains the site text. Graphics and other media objects are linked to the orignal site and may or may not be available.

Notify Webmaster

You might notify the webmaster about the issue. Include the error number and the address (URL) where the error occurred along with any other relevant details.
Many sites use an email address in the form webmaster@sitename.com where you replace sitename.com with the web sites address (don't include a www). Keep in mind with the amount of spam, they may use a different address and/or it might get ignored. Check the websites' contact information to get reliable contact information.

Official Explanation
The server, while acting as a gateway or proxy, received an invalid response from the upstream server it accessed in attempting to fulfill the request.
"502 Bad Gateway" is supported by most Web Servers.
The five hundred series of errors indicate something is wrong at the server and it is unable to complete the action.
